An Egyptian Wedding

Last night our good friend's brother got married. Weddings are always a fun cultural thing to see. They are quite a bit different than most weddings in the states. Weddings in Egypt are very loud and always full of energy. We thought you might enjoy seeing some of the pictures. Enjoy!!

Vows are made between the groom and the Father of the Bride. An Islamic Sheikh will guide them through this. The Groom promises to love and cherish his daughter and the Father of the Bride Blesses the marriage publicly. During this ceremony, they must hold hands by touching thumbs to signify a covenant between them.

The actual marriage ceremony is quite short (10-15 minutes maybe) but dancing and celebrating can go on through the night. In most cases, men dance with men and women dance with women except for the bride and groom.

Lydia is still the celebrity. Children always ask her questions and teach her how to dance. :)

There is always two chairs for the Bride and Groom to sit at in front of everyone. When they aren't with their guests they sit and people greet them or take pictures.
